Industrial 3D printer manufacturer Massivit 3D, an Israeli company, has announced the launch of its new Massivit 5000 large-format system. Like other Massivit 3D printers, the Massivit 5000 works with its proprietary Gel Dispensing Printing (GDP) technology. This process is something in between FFF/FDM and inkjet material printing and is done by extruding high viscosity photopolymer gels at high speeds cured into solid layers by built-in UV emitters.

Based on proven GDP technology, the Massivit 5000 machine is set to open up new possibilities for high-performance printing. It may be an upgrade of the flagship Massivit 1800 system with a similar working volume of 1450x1110x1800 mm, but with a focus on increased productivity and 3D printing resolution. The Massivit 5000 reportedly offers up to 30 times more productivity than existing production technologies. One key new feature is the Dual Material System, which allows users to print two different parts simultaneously from two different materials. Each of the print heads can also be configured for a different print resolution, which allows to give priority to the printing speed in case of a large-scale project.

For the sake of increased production flexibility, Massivit 5000 users can use two print modes – Fast mode and HD mode. Fast mode is used to print thick layers of 1.5mm, while HD mode is recommended for more detail with 0.5mm thick layers, where dimensional accuracy matters. In this case print speeds of up to 300 mm/s are possible.

In addition, the Massivit 5000 comes with a new automated print control system that essentially directs the camera to the two printheads. The software allows parameters such as print height and part resolution to be changed in real time during the printing process, optimizing print speed and quality as needed. Thus, areas of the part requiring higher resolution printing can be produced with greater care.

Finally, Massivit is also releasing a new gel for use with the Massivit 5000. The material, called DIMENGEL 110, is reportedly designed to facilitate high-resolution printing and better match CAD designs.

Erez Zimerman, CEO of Massivit 3D, said: “We are very excited to bring to market this new additive manufacturing system that will allow manufacturers to overcome existing limitations in speed, size and complexity of production. This is an important milestone on our journey to transform the production of large, large parts in a variety of industries.”

The company’s newest system – Massivit 10000 – will be launched in the fall of 2021 and can be used in the production of advertising products, large-size layouts, prototyping and tooling for the automotive, marine and railway industries. The Massivit 5000 reportedly provides up to 30 times more productivity than existing manufacturing technologies. The Massivit 5000 printer is designed primarily for manufacturers and service providers who need to produce large photopolymer parts for industries such as automotive, marine and railroad.
