After an already successful joint campaign, 3D printing company MyMiniFactory in collaboration with Esso Petroleum Company now present their second design challenge, giving participants the chance to win a Fusion3 F410 3D printer.

Already last year, the two companies called on the 3D DIY community to transform old 250ml cans into something new as well as useful. On the one hand, participants could give old cans “a second life” by designing fun, innovative or useful ways to reuse them, and on the other hand, accessories that complement and enhance the user experience could be submitted.

Together, MyMiniFactory and Esso are launching another design contest and calling on the 3D DIY community to share their creative as well as innovative designs. This year’s contest focuses on fuel pumps – more specifically, fuel pump handles.

The challenge is as follows:
Design and later 3D print new premium fuel pump handles that stand out from the ordinary ones to give premium fuel users an exclusive fueling experience.

While the pre-determined shape of such handles leaves little room for creativity, participants in this challenge are allowed to incorporate almost any material and element in the design process. All steps in the process, from thinking to ergonomics to renderings, must be documented and explained. In this way, participants are expected to submit a product innovation concept, so to speak.

To help, Esso published one-minute videos on YouTube that explain the ingredients in Synergy Fuels and thus also show the benefits for vehicles. These videos are also welcome to be used as a source of inspiration for this competition.

Unlike previous challenges on MyMiniFactory, this contest’s submissions will not be shown publicly. Furthermore, since this is an Esso premium product, participants are asked not to share their designs on social media.

Prize:
In appreciation for the new, innovative premium fuel pump handle, the winner will receive a brand new Fusion3 F410 3D printer. Three main features characterize this 3D printer: precision, speed and reliability.

Furthermore, the Fusion3 F410 offers:

  • Fully enclosed 14 “x 14″ x 12.4” build area.
  • Speeds up to 250 mm/s
  • Layer heights as low as 20 μm
  • Interchangeable printheads for a balance of speed and print quality
  • A wide variety of materials
  • Automatic bed leveling and filament detection
