Pixologic ZBrush Review

zbrush

ZBrush is a 3D modeling software that offers a unique focus on precision and performance. Developed by Pixologic, the application offers millions of polygons to work with to allow 3D modelers to add layers of textures and powerful lighting and rendering options to create products that push the limitations of 3D printing.

ZBrush is a Pixol-based application that allows designers to store a number of different materials, textures, colors, and lighting effects on one design. Like regular pixels, pixols contain information on color values and X and Y position but pixols also contain data on depth (Z position), orientation, and material used. The software also includes Polypaint which allows you to control the density of your design and Curves to allow you to control the flow.

Unlike other software that lets you combine shapes, ZBrush is more similar to sculpting to create high-resolution models of up to 10 million polygons. Built-in features like Dynamesh, Zspheres, and a host of transformational tools and a multitude of sculpting tools allow 3D artists to not only design more accurately, but more efficiently than ever before.

The latest version of ZBrush includes ZRemesher, a powerful functionality that creates a more intuitive and automated interface. The software is also well-known for their focus on precision. ZBrush allows you to create high quality details in your design that is far more comprehensive than those produced by traditional applications.

What makes ZBrush truly unique is its independence from traditional hardware-powered rendering and sculpting. With a simple P4 or Anthlon64 processor, 1 gig of ram, Windows Vista, and a standard 1280×1024 VGA monitor, 3D artists and sculptors can immediately start designing their model without the need for more advanced hardware. The software costs a flat $795 which makes it one of the more affordable advanced 3D modelers available.
